Children of God and Children of the Devil 1 John 3:1-10 I. Problem Exposed II. Problem Explained III. Problem Resolved I. Problem Exposed: Christians who claim to be children of God yet live in sin Everyone who sins has not seen him or known him… v6 The one who commits sin is of the devil… v8 This is how God's children and the devil’s children become obvious whoever does not do what is right is not of God… v10 II. Problem Explained: The one who commits sin is of the devil Everyone who commits sin practices lawlessness; and sin is lawlessness. v4 The one who commits sin is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning…v8 III. The problem Resolved You know that he was revealed so that he might take away sins… v5 The Son of God was revealed for this purpose: to destroy the devil's works. v8 III. The Problem Resolved 26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will remove your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. 27 I will place my Spirit within you and cause you to follow my statutes and carefully observe my ordinances. -- Ezekiel 36:26-27 III. The Problem Resolved 11 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, 12 instructing us to deny godlessness and worldly lusts and to live in a sensible, righteous, and godly way in the present age… 14 He gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to cleanse for himself a people for his own possession, eager to do good works. -- Titus 2:11-12 Application 1.Have you had a real encounter with a Holy God? Have you trully met Jesus as your Lord and Savior? Has the pattern of living in sin truly been broken in your life? 2.Have you been deceived by contemporary Christianity that living in sin is acceptable? 3.How will you pray differently for your loved ones that live in sin and call themselves children of God? 4.What hope can you give to those who have been in the Church all their life and never been free from sin?
